For sale is a fascinating geological specimen found on the foreshore at Southend-on-Sea, Essex. This piece is a classic example of a "trace fossil" or an elongated sea-smoothed pebble, characteristic of the unique geology of the Thames Estuary. Likely a fossilized burrow cast (possibly Thalassinoides). These are formed when prehistoric crustacean tunnels in the London Clay were filled with sediment and mineralized over millions of years. Naturally weathered and smoothed by the North Sea. It is a solid, heavy specimen with no recent chips or cracks. A Great Addition For: Collectors of curiosities and natural oddities.
